Tiger Brigades, The

Aroview: Splashy French adventurism, in the spirit of THE UNTOUCHABLES, pits a high-minded inspector and his hard knocks 'Tiger Brigade' of crimebusters as they battle gangsters and corruption in early 20th century Paris.

Despite a cracking cast and a surfeit of tantalising historical material, the heavily allusive, multi-layered plot (adapted from the popular 1970s TV series) occasionally labours under a dearth of fluidity and a somewhat glib approach to such densely interesting subject matter. Nevertheless, this broadly appealing escapade is loaded with enough intrigue and tension to warrant viewer attention.
