Rendition
Aroview: Frenetic thriller by dir. of TSOTSI concerns Witherspoon's desperate search for her husband after he goes missing on an international flight, subsequently revealing a web of conspiratorial intrigue involving the CIA, politicians and terrorists.
Despite the compelling and highly relevant subject material (state-sponsored torture, terrorism, insufficient intelligence), the film's indictment of the consequences of the unbridled 'war on terror' labours along under somewhat torpid direction and wooden lead performances. A romantic sub-plot involving a torturer's daughter and the brother of a radical Islamist gains traction, if not quite enough.
