Aroview: Whimsical yet biting Czech farce centres on the exploits of an endearingly opportunistic waiter, whose thrifty wiles propel him into all manner of tragi-comic situations.
Infused with Chaplin-esque physicality, plus the absurdist humour and anarchistic spirit of films such as DAISIES, this slyly observed, if occasionally unsubtle, satire of clockwork capitalism and the subjugation of Nazi-occupied nations succeeds in detailing the class divides and the magnetism of money; at once revelling in, and reviling the decadence afforded the rich and powerful.
Based on the best-selling novel by Bohumil Hrabal.

5 stars (Exceptional) While sexually high strung, It does not stray from relevance in its portrayal of the pit fall of greed, sex & power. It boils down to what really matters in life conclusion using a theme of how over time life repeats itself only the circumstances differ. ~Tiberius
5 stars (Exceptional) An irreverent, unpredictable romp that pokes completely non-pc fun at all society, politics, regimes and personal obnoxiousness and ambitions. Ironic scenes and scenarios race to a very neat wrapping-up in comeuppance. ~rakau
4 stars (Very Good) It has excellent period production values, a well written satirical screenplay and it is topped off with a spot on performance from Ivan Barnev. ~Tubbs
