Rogue
Aroview: Second terrifying outing from the dir. of WOLF CREEK centers on a 'rogue' giant crocodile in the Australian outback, whose latest prey is a boatful of squashy Western tourists and shrewd Aussie locals.
Mclean's naturalistic take on horror continues here – sincere dialogue and magnificent nature-doco cinematography is abundant – lazy CGI, too, is undetectable, our croc evocative of the gloriously tight-budgeted animatronic monsters of yore. What remains is still a monster flick despite this lack of irony, but intelligently drawn characters, expert pacing and a particularly infallible villain casts this leagues above usual creature crap.
