Boss Of It All, The
Aroview: Crude, but refreshing change of pace from perennial troublemaker Lars von Trier sees the Danish renegade chance his arm at a corporate-styled comedy, satirizing office politics and workplace relations to humorous effect.
While the comedic elements occasionally fall flat, von Trier gets good mileage out of his screwball premise, where a dubious actor is hired to stand in for the chief executive of an ailing IT firm. Turning increasingly absurdist, the film is ultimately too freewheeling to successfully deliver its three-act comedy routine, although does justify its shapelessness through its director’s incorrigible experimental streak (the bizarre angles, for instance, can be explained by the use of a computerized camera dubbed “Automavision”).
