Extraordinary Rendition
Aroview: Topical, slightly underdone small-budget political thriller tracks a forward thinking UK teacher who is abducted and brutally tortured in an unknown Middle Eastern location after students report his controversial views on terrorism to the authorities.
If the realistically portrayed torture scenes lend a shockingly raw immediacy to proceedings, the back-and-forth narrative structure somewhat dilutes the overall effect. Given the wider ramifications of 'extraordinary rendition', writer/dir. Threapleton's microcosmic approach will doubtless leave some feeling jipped, while others will savour the task of grappling with the terrifying questions the film raises.
