Blame it on Fidel!
Aroview: A warm, wise and wryly observed evocation of a child's accelerated maturation in the midst of early 1970s social and political upheaval, Nina Kervel-Bey is revelatory as the precocious daughter of bourgeois French parents, who adopt communist politics in the wake of a relative's refugee flight from Franco-led Spain.
Directed with empathetic yet unsentimental confidence by Gavras (daughter of the renowned Costa), this belies its breezy tone with a shrewd, even-handed articulation of personal and political friction between a naively stubborn child and her idealistic parents. A superbly acted, modestly profound gem.
