Un Secret

Aroview: Graceful, poignant French wartime drama centred on the son of a Jewish family who uncovers a piece of unsettling family history at the time of the German occupation.

Told in retrospect as the mature adult looks back to his childhood in the 1940s growing up under the expectant glare of his high-achieving athletic parents, 'the secret' explains the burden he has carried with him into adulthood. Though prone to the trappings of melodrama, this conveys the subtler reverberations of the Holocaust and its shades of Jewish complicity, while the lithe Cecile De France cuts a dashing figure in elegant period costume.
