Aroview: An indifferent Hong Kong detective slowly becomes convinced that women are conspiring to kill off the entire male species in this curious melange of surrealist comedy and earnest police procedural.

Best approached through dir. Pang’s sleek, modernist imagery (atypical for a Hong Kong movie), this is less mesmerizing when hinged on its conspiracy theory: a ripe premise largely squandered here by the film’s inability to choose between black humour or end-of-world seriousness. Still, a gorgeously shot feminist tease worth persisting with.
