UK 2008, 112 minutes
Dir. Roger Donaldson
Genres: Drama / Heist, History
Topics: Period 1970s.
Feat. Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows
Aroview: Heavy-for-hire Jason Stratham stars in this enjoyable crime caper based around the true story of a robbery in a London bank vault in 1971, and the controversial materials stolen within that had the potential to cause a royal scandal.
Filled to the brim with corrupt cops, royal porn snaps and murder, one gets the feeling there is more fiction than fact on display here, however the narrative moves along at a cracking pace without strict historical restraints. It might also pay to ignore some truly dodgy class-based British stereotypes (the poor/posh divide distilled neatly down to good vs evil) and instead surrender to the film’s high-concept, silly fun, lead with gruff charm from the capable Stratham.

4 stars (Very Good) An enjoyable heist film with Statham taking the lead of a group of over-their-head thieves intent on robbing a London bank vault. Will keep you thoroughly entertained throughout. ~Tom H
3 stars (Good Enough) Roger Donaldson's latest outing. A cut above average. Band of bumbling amateur crooks succeed against the odds and steal millions in this somewhat embellished tale of actual events. ~Anon
3 stars (Good Enough) Entertaining and never boring - having quality character actors helps. ~Tubbs
