Insanitarium

Aroview: Jesse Metcalf (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) stars as a man who cons his way into a mental hospital to rescue his institutionalised sister, only to discover all the curiously bloodthirsty patients are lab-rats of a lunatic doctor.

D-grade production values aside (even the colour of the blood is questionable) the film zips along admirably, never once straying outside of it’s very specific ‘asylum horror’ genre. Peter Stormare in particular turns up the dial to 11 as the extremely nutty doctor and young Metcalf does a decent enough job as the only ‘sane’ person in the joint. Expect ridiculous stereotypes of a whole variety of mental disorders and truckloads of enjoyable, cheap gore.
