Milk
Aroview: Saying it proud but not too loud, this dramatized biopic of the first openly-elected gay official fittingly tributes the legacy of San Fransisco councellor Harvey Milk (Penn) and his struggle to give the gay community a voice in the political climate of the 70's.
Showcasing Sean Penn's Oscar-winning performance, this is more than anything a perfect match of director to material, with Van Sant telling the story like he lived it, and keeping it lively enough to win hearts and minds across the sexual/political divide. Whatever one's orientation, this is a chance to look back at a trailblazing era in sexual politics that provides a moving testament to the dreadful risks and sacrifices that are made in order to challenge convention and inspire significant social change.

2 stars (Good Try) Even though its Gus Van Sant don't waste your time with this dramatisation - get the real story from the documentary "Times of Harvey Milk" (1984). ~Tubbs
