Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution
Aroview: 60s-era Brit comedy following the middle-class Ratcliffe family, who move from their comfortable Yorksire home to East Germany in live out their Communist Utopian dreams.
The absense of a real satirical edge in this rather fluffy comedy/drama proves problematic considering how horrific life really was behind the iron curtain, and the comedic German sterotypes reinforce the light touch. Nonetheless, the performances are uniformly excellent (Tate is particularly noteworthy) and elevate this beyond its broad simplicity into something more earnest.
