Secret Life Of Bees, The
Aroview: Honey-soaked drama set in the South during the Civil Rights era follows 14 year old Lily Owens (Fanning), and her relationship with a group of African-American women who fill an emotional void in her life.
This checks all the boxes for a fine girls night in, although it tends to keep within the comfortable waters of sentimentality, drenching an ethereal Southern sunshine over the harsher realities of the racial struggle. Regardless, its heart is in the right place, and if you enjoy a bit of treacle (served by familiar character stereotypes), there's more than enough going round.
