Women, The
Aroview: Fluffy remake of the 1930s original focuses on a group of shrieking high-society women who rally together to help their friend deal with a cheating husband.
This is a comfortable, watered-down version for a modern ‘girl power!’ audience, director/writer English (vet of TV's MURPHY BROWN) choosing to translate everyone into various contemporary stereotypes at the expense of the gleefully complex, nasty characters in the original. While you mentally tick off the post-feminist checklist (black, lesbian, CEO) Rosalind Russell - the original's vicious gossip queen - rolls her eyes in her grave.
