Jerusalema
Aroview: A punchy, gun-toting gangland epic following the rise to two Soweto teenagers seduced by crime and violence in South Africa.
Although closest in attitude to the stylized, frequently violent CITY OF GOD, this African equivalent is more in touch with the social and political milieu of its setting, and thus carries a moral underpinning to the underworld brutality it serves up vigorously.

4 stars (Very Good) A gritty South African drama/suspense that has a couple of street-smart teenagers caught up in crime in their race for fortune. Jerusalema is not only a violent gangster flick but also has political and racial elements that keep it multidimensional. ~Tom H

2 stars (Good Try) It is good that it highlights the greedy/negligent landlord problem and there are some very good segments and location shots away from the violence. The friction between the characters is however a repeat of what has been filmed many times elsewhere. ~Tubbs
