Last Chance Harvey
Aroview: Simple romance stars Dustin Hoffman as a down-and-out divorcee whose life seems to be going nowhere until he meets the equally down-and-out Emma Thompson in an airport bar.
Although completely implausible (Emma Thompson as a frumpy singleton is a stretch) this unassuming tale of hope is elevated by the two central performances from a couple of actors who could do this stuff blindfolded, each injecting buckets of charm into what could have been rather bland stock characters. Ultimately, the key here lies in your willingness to give into the predictable proceedings, which, when presented with shots of Hoffman and Thompson strolling around the streets of London hand-in-hand like a couple of dizzy lovebirds, is not hard to do.
