Aroview: UK adaptation of Henning Mankell’s crime novels sees Branagh take on the titular role of the grizzled Nordic detective, solving gristly crimes in the primary-coloured Swedish town of Ystad. Branagh is superb, the watering-down of the Swedish culture and vocabulary less so, although some will invariably find this more accessible than the Scandinavian-produced original.

5 stars (Exceptional) Wallander is a flawed Nordic depressive. Kenneth Branagh captures his shambolic life spirit perfectly. What makes this series special is the way he develops as a human being as the series progresses. ~Watching Brief
