My Sister's Keeper
Aroview: Trademark weepy from twin tearjerkers Nick Cassavetes (THE NOTEBOOK) and bestselling author Jodi Picoult, about the parents of a Leukemia-stricken daughter who give birth to her younger sister as a readymade kidney donor, only for the child at age 11 to defy their wishes.
Highly commendable as a film prepared to openly confront the shocking effects of cancer and the difficulties of caring for the ill, this nevertheless resorts to sickly sentimentalism at the story’s most crucial moments, a mawkishness that some will find hard to give into. Those prepared to be swept along by it though will require two hankies, at least.
