Aroview: Supernatural chiller has a mysterious stranger presenting a young couple with a small wooden box with a nasty twist, if they open it they'll receive a million dollars but a stranger will die.
An intriguing premise - filmed previously for NIGHT GALLERY as "Button, button" - that's deftly handled in an unshowy style, sustains a genuinely creepy mood for much of the film. Unfortunately, in trying to expand on the simple conceit the film begins to meander and in the last half goes slightly off the rails, but there's still some real chills to be had and Frank Langella gives a thoroughly unnerving performance. A solid outing from director Kelly but its no DONNIE DARKO.

3 stars (Good Enough) Simply told, and will definitely give you some chills, but with a premise that fails to keep up for the entirety of the film. This would have been a stunning supernatural tale to a 1970s audience (which is when the film is set). ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) Plot driven scifi suspense drama which needs to be taken on its own terms. Well produced and well acted. Something of a throwback to the 1970's and with plenty of the weirdness and excess typical of that time. I didn't think that it was too long. ~Anon
3 stars (Good Enough) An intriguing first half is let down by the second - but overall the writing is more imaginative than most screenplays. Frank Langella has a bit missing but even though he is not all there he is still good enough to take the acting honours. ~Tubbs
