Aroview: An off-beat delight that's quirky take on tin-pot America is never at the expense of its truthfulness or poignancy.
The ballad of the dysfunctional Grape family is beautifully evoked, with Johnny Depp and Juliette Lewis allowing plenty of room for Leonardo DiCaprio to do what is probably the best piece of adolescent method-acting ever. A gem.

4 stars (Very Good) Gilbert is trapped in small-town life but also responsible for his intellectually handicapped brother while his sisters care for a morbidly obese mother. When he falls for an enchanting stranger he's torn between family & his own hopes & dreams. Love it! ~GenXGirl
4 stars (Very Good) DiCaprio and Depp are excellent as polar-opposite brothers in small-town America. A touching tale, with both sweet naivety and telling societal insight. ~Tom H
4 stars (Very Good) 4.5 - match in the gas tank boom boom ~atsophie
4 stars (Very Good) The screenplay is confined to a small physical area but this is used to advantage in that it can then concentrate on the interesting characters. These are just about believable as being drawn from real life - but perhaps not all from the same family. ~Tubbs
