Sundays and Cybele
Aroview: Touching, if occasionally over-sentimentalised drama that contemplates the relationship between a mentally scarred bomber pilot and the 12-year-old girl he develops a healing companionship with.
A beautifully photographed example of early nouvelle vague cinema, and winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1963.

5 stars (Exceptional) In NZ - with the Christchurch Creche affair still an issue - its political point is bang-on. Acting is first-rate, & photography (Henri Decae) sublime. I saw it in 1963, & in 2022 it remains a favourite - joyful, thoughtful & unforgettable. ~EdMorbius
