All Quiet on the Western Front
Aroview: While the 1930's film of Erich Maria Remarque's exceptional anti-war novel is undoubtedly a masterpiece, this later version should not be overlooked. The sorry tale of a young German soldier's profound disillusionment amidst the horror of World War I, it's vivid portrayal of the futility and barbarity of battle is masterfully managed without glory or romanticism.
As Remarque said this "contains no poetry - it is simply war."
