Good Dick

Aroview: A romantic-comedy fraught with emotional damage, this unique American indie follows the strange yet touching relationship between a troubled, porn-obsessed girl and a bright-eyed video store(!) clerk vying for her attention.

The weirdly platonic, sado-masohistic relationship is oddly compelling despite at times stretching credulity, but Marianna Palka's script and direction has the courage of its convictions, as does her lead performance with real-life partner, the likeable Jason Ritter. The lack of emotional generosity may be very hard to warm to for some, but those that go the distance and find understanding for these very screwed-up characters will find it lingers long (and even improves) in the memory.
