Wild Grass
Aroview: A masterful light-footed comedy of the surreal from veteran French dir. Alain Resnais, centered on a missing wallet responsible for triggering a bizarre series of events.
Sabine Azéma plays the victim of a street theft whose stolen purse turns up in the hands of a peculiar old-timer, and the subsequent power-play between the two would-be lovers toggles curiously between melancholy courtship and creepy stalker romance. Equal parts nouvelle vague and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM (a minor inspiration, according to the filmmaker), the offbeat tone and bizarre sense of incident will delight viewers prepared to roll with its punches, however inscrutable they may be.
