Flipped
Aroview: A welcome return to 50's childhood for the director of STAND BY ME, this equally charming tale charts the believably awkward courtship between two eighth graders (13-year-olds) with little in common.
The story is constantly 'flipped' as both sides of the narrative coin are played out for each scene, first from the boy's perspective and then from the girl's. It's a storytelling device that yields genuine insight into temperamental young minds and notions of prejudice in society and relationships. While occasionally simplistic on adult terms, it's a lovely pint-sized romantic comedy that has all the attributes of a major 'sleeper' hit.
