Eclipse, The

Aroview: Ciaran Hinds mourns the death of his soulmate while chauffeuring literary stars around his overcast hometown in this hushed Irish drama with a supernatural twang.

Quieting unfolding as a mid-life romance between Hinds and a bestselling horror author (Hjejle) visiting for the town’s writer’s festival, the appearance of ghosts soon injects some eerie, unnerving atmosphere into an otherwise sleepy premise. Understated to the point of being underwhelming, the film nevertheless is charged with great chemistry between the small ensemble, with the impressive Hinds holding down a rare chance at a lead role.
