For Colored Girls
Aroview: Potent, if melodramatic, adaptation of the acclaimed play that has an extraordinarily diverse cast exploring the lives of nine black women through poetry.
At times unbearably earnest and atonal, with dir. Perry making little effort to free the film from its stage origins, this is still a worthy undertaking and a welcome addition to the small stable of films that examine black female identity.
