Colossal Youth
Aroview: A major work of contemporary art cinema, this mesmerizing sleepwalk throughout the demolished slums of Lisbon, Portugal is seen through the eyes of Ventura, an aging Cape Verde immigrant in search of his spiritual family lost amongst the ruins of the once lively neighborhood.
Neither documentary nor fiction, a sense of ghostly disconnect permeates through dir. Costa's rigorous but beautifully composed images, all shot remarkably on standard-definition digital video. Preceded by two films in the 'Fontainhas Trilogy', BONES and IN VANDA'S ROOM.
