Aroview: A fairly perfunctory, though by no means terrible prequel to John Carpenter's sci-fi classic, centred on a young paleontologist (Winstead) recruited to investigate a long-frozen UFO discovered by Norwegian scientists on an Antarctic base. Thankfully, the practical creature effects (with CGI augmentation) and chilly claustrophobia of the original are for the most part retained and deployed with aplomb.

3 stars (Good Enough) This could have been so good. The first 2 thirds are actually worthy of the original, but the film is let down by some horrible CGI (why did they cover up the physical effects) and the terrible ending. An OK watch, but not a patch on the original. ~Anon
