Aroview: Albert Finney plays the titular character, an ennui-ridden author whose return to his hometown of Manchester is less than triumphant.
Finney's sole directorial outing -scripted by Shelagh Delaney- is an enigmatic, slightly surreal variation on the kitchen sink dramas in which he made his name, with the occasional moddish flourish not detracting from an assured debut.

3 stars (Good Enough) Episodic - Colin Blakely and Liza M are fine the latter being a nice surprise but the best moments are with the excellent Billie Whitelaw. Some "nostalgic" urban northern locations (the slums on their last legs) and a surreal finish.~tubbs
