“Writing with Gerwig, Baumbach has created a fey, sneakily charming generational touchstone on a par with 'Annie Hall'.”~Washington Post
Aroview: The whimsical exploits of a struggling dancer at the tail end of her adolescence are semi-improvised in this Manhattan indie rom-com, inspired by the French new wave and mid-period Woody Allen.
Adorned with hip cameos and references, and easy-cheesy pop songs, this is too self-conscious to be satisfyingly authentic, though Gerwig is a charming enough presence and, through her own part in devising the script, has some grasp on her 27-year-old character's arrested development.

2 stars (Good Try) Showed flashes of promise but didn't hold the attention. ~Tubbs
5 stars (Exceptional) Powerfully authentic and emotional. Fun soundtrack, writing that feels incredibly honest and representative of the characters. A fun little movie that carries a surprising amount of depth. ~b1tch.2k
