Dir. Park Chan-Wook
Rating: [R16] Violence and sex scenes
Genres: Drama, Suspense/Crime
Aroview: Korean director Park Chan-wook (OLD BOY) makes a head-turning English-language debut with this uber-stylish and sensitized tale of an estranged uncle who mysteriously appears at the manor of his bereaved niece and sister-in-law.
Working with yet another 'visionary' director, Nicole Kidman's adds yet another feather to her arthouse cap as the flame-haired widow, while Matthew Goode and Mia Wasikowska perfectly fit the heightened Hitchcockian world of psychosexual intrigue. Elegantly staged and fortified by some astounding editing, those that appreciate cinema as fetish object will find this a gothic melodrama to savour.
