God's Pocket
Aroview: Philip Seymour Hoffman's penultimate film finds the actor playing a blue collar everyman whose debts and strained marriage come under greater pressure when his stepson is murdered.
Based on a Pete Dexter novel, this fluctuates between humour and tragedy, and not always smoothly, though the strong performances here mitigate any unevenness in direction and tone.
