Conforming to the Scandi-crime boilerplate where grisly sensationalism presides over the psychological veracity of the crime, this first adaptation of a series of novels by Jussi Adler-Olsen is nonetheless typically assured and is certain to have fans of the genre looking forward to more.

4 stars (Very Good) Scandinavian noir that is seriously black. No wisecracking American toughs with silly pistols here! Edge of the seat gripping right through, with plenty of surprises. Not a soft one for Sunday nights! Recommended. ~Sandy
