Ground We Won, The
“a startling, ferociously intelligent, disturbing, heart-warming and hauntingly beautiful piece of film making... An instant national classic”~Graham Tuckett, Dominion Post
Aroview: A revealing portrait of contemporary manhood as observed through the rites and rituals of a rural New Zealand rugby club made up of died-in-the-wool dairy farmers in Reporoa, Bay of Plenty.
Filmed in black-and-white and set to a score by the New Zealand String Quartet, the film-makers give grace to their good-hearted subjects while not flinching from the more unsavoury aspects of tribal behaviour.

2 stars (Good Try) This dramatised documentary is likely to be more appreciated outside of Australasia by those unfamiliar with this part of New Zealand life. ~Tubbs
4 stars (Very Good) I have zero passion for rugby. The Ground We Won is not about rugby, but what it means to those who play. As such it's a portrait of the human need for community and purpose - and it's quite wonderful. ~fairbrother
