In This Corner of the World
“Will doubtlessly go down as one of the masterpieces of WWII-inspired pop art”~Justin Sevakis, Anime News Neetwork
Aroview: Picturesque war-time animation exploring the everyday challenges faces by Japanese people during WWII. The setting, a small town outside Hiroshima, is masterfully reconstructed in manga using thousands of photographs from the era. Both sorrowful and uplifting in tone, this is a powerfully understated film which ranks alongside the Studio Ghibli treasures that have obviously inspired it - the director is protégé of Hayao Miyazaki.
