Ascent, The
Aroview: A Soviet WWII classic shot in appalling winter conditions in which two partisans on a mission to gather food contend with the winter cold, the occupying Germans, and their own psyches. It would be the director's last film before her untimely death in a car accident in 1979.

4 stars (Very Good) Great visual metaphors. The last act, while it's far from bad, it seems far too disconnected to the rest of the film for me. Ignoring this, it'd probably be my favourite movie of 1977. Strong recommend. ~Anon
