Craft: Legacy, The
“An entertaining and insightful mashup of tropes, both respectful of what came before and willing to try new tricks. Being a weirdo, it seems, has never gone out of fashion.”~Kate Erbland, IndieWire
Aroview: Sequel to the 1996 film THE CRAFT, following four high school students who form a coven of witches.
After the original's all-male creative team unwittingly provided a generation of girls with something like a feminist power fantasy, this "soft reboot" 24 years later sees it's protagonists less angsty and more comfortably empowered from the start, with that gothic edge replaced by a gentler and more compassionate take on the occult lifestyle. Still, it's a heady brew full of timely themes around social, sexual and political justice, with a diverse cast of young women. A charming take on the adolescent experience.
