Aroview: Classic of the late silent era from French filmmaker, writer and film theorist Marcel L'Herbier, based on the book of the same name by Émile Zola.
Updating the novel from the 1860's to Paris in the 20's, the story concerns a pair of business tycoons who engage in a series of conceits and treachery in their efforts to one up each other.

The disc includes a newly improvised musical accompaniment by French composer and pianist Jean-François Zygel, along with an introduction and documentary by Zygel, plus two further documentaries about the film and L'Herbier himself.
