A Snake of June
Aroview: Intriguing neo-noir psychodrama from uncompromising Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto (yes, he of the notorious TETSUO films), about a suicide prevention counselor in a sexless marriage who is targeted by a voyeur.
She soon descends into an erotic world of perversity and humiliation, with her disinterested workaholic husband also pulled into this festering triangle. A visually distinctive film which has been tinted monochrome blue in post-production, and is awash in rain and humidity. The bracing themes, symbolism and style will reward adventurous viewers.
