Strangers When We Meet
Aroview: Romantic drama adapted by Evan Hunter from his novel of the same name, about two married neighbours who have an affair.
Kirk Douglas plays the suburban architect who is stuck in a rut in both his marriage and his career, and receives a new lease on life via the attentions of Kim Novak. A richly melodramatic film with all characters in a certain degree of misery. Aptly released in 1960, it contrasts the stale 50's marriage trope with a new era of self-discovery and perhaps misguided hope. Recommended for Douglas Sirk aficionados.
