Aroview: Lyrical Southern gothic drama from the production team that made TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, about a working class mother (Lee Remick) who reunites with her recently paroled husband (Steve McQueen) with their neglected 6-year-old daughter in tow.

A wannabe rockabilly musician, he struggles to adjust to his new life, still very much under the controlling influence of his aging state-appointed guardian. A moody, wistful film which lacks direction but looks glorious, with sleepy Texan locations shot in black and white.

4 stars (Very Good) A more subtle Mulligan/Pakula/Foote/Bernstein opus than “Mockingbird”. With its hint of abuse, the revealingly symbolic belt seen hanging on a door - like the shot in the last seconds of Polanski’s “Repulsion” - largely escaped its audience. ~EdMorbius
