Day of the Dolphin, The

USA 1974, 104 minutes
Dir. Mike Nichols
Rating: [PG]
Genres: Classics, Science Fiction, Suspense/Crime / Animal Amok

Synopsis: An ecological sci-fi thriller, based on a French novel by Robert Merle. George C Scott stars as a scientist who has trained two dolphins to communicate in English, only to have them both kidnapped and trained to assassinate the US president with a naval mine. While the premise is a bit chuckle-inducing, the film takes itself seriously and has an earnest approach to the story.

“Ultimately, The Day of the Dolphin works because of the values it celebrates and Scott communicates. The values are communication and love.”~Gene Siskel, Chicago Tribune
