Soldier of Orange

Aroview: Dutch WWII film by Paul Verhoeven, following several young students during the German occupation of the Netherlands, and the different paths each of them takes.

Verhoeven himself grew up in the Netherlands at this time and would go on to depict war and fascism in more allegorical ways in some of his later sci-fi films, so it is interesting to see a film of his that is a more literal historical depiction. Though it does still have a certain audacious WTF factor that one would associate with the director.
