Sparrows Can't Sing

UK 1963, 88 minutes
Dir. Joan Littlewood
Rating: [R16]
Genres: Classics, Comedy, Drama

Aroview: A sprightly British kitchen sink comedy about a man who returns from two years at sea to find his house demolished and his wife living with a married man and their toddler.

Written by Stephen Lewis based on his play, and the sole screen directing credit of theatre director Joan Littlewood, the dialogue combines Cockney rhyming slang, London Yiddish, and something called "thieves cant".
