“A film full of beautiful moments that puts the history smack bang in our faces and asks us not to look away.”~Stephen Romei, The Australian

Aroview: Lovely and tragic in equal measure, this historical drama tells the true story of Antoni Benaiges, the schoolmaster of a small Catalonian town in the lead-up to the Spanish Civil War. Moving between the 1930s and contemporary times, the film also follows the granddaughter of one of his students, who uncovers his story.

Benaiges is shown to be a very kind, animated and inspirational teacher, who would give John Keating a run for his money. Though loved by his students, he runs into friction with some of the townsfolk due to his secular and liberal views. And when the Fascist army start arriving in town, things go from bad to worse.
