Asphalt Jungle, The
Aroview: Brute force and eloquent dishonesty intersect as different walks of low-life are helplessly drawn to the ultimate heist, engineered by German mastermind Sam Jaffe, and led by brooding 'hooligan' Sterling Hayden. Classic hard-boiled noir with an insistent sense of unease and glorious deep focus photography, plus a bonus; Marilyn Monroe makes a small but head-turning screen debut.

3 stars (Good Enough) A very influential, archetypal crime movie, The Asphalt Jungle is a must watch for cineasts. It’s got an effective atmosphere, and the untangling of the heist is nicely understated. Engenders a good degree of sympathy in the characters. A little didactic. ~SteveParkes
5 stars (Exceptional) Very good heist movie ~emjay
