Unhook the Stars

Aroview: Ageing widow Gena Rowlands forms an unlikely bond with a seven-year old neighbour and his abrasive mother in this absorbing drama, directed with admirable restraint by Nick Cassavetes (son of the late film-maker/actor John and star Rowlands).

Like its central character, it's a mature, graceful, and perceptive paean to parenthood, and thus will likely reward viewers of several generations.
