Brave, The

Aroview: Johnny Depp's much-derided directorial debut is an over-ambitious epic look at a desperate character who sells himself into snuff movies. It plays something like a 70s cult film - a tendency towards the ridiculous and the sentimental, is countered by an ability to strike notes not usually seen in indie films, and there's a few scenes that are quite stunning. Marlon Brando appears in an appropriate but small role.
